After a good night's sleep next to that beautiful lake (and getting woken up at 5:30 a.m. by fishermen coming to launch their boat), we were once again driving westward. As we were passing through Kenora, ON, we happened upon Husky the Muskie, a 40-foot sculpture of a muskellunge. Nice surprise to break the monotony of the road!
Not long after crossing into Manitoba, we followed some signs to Whiteshell Provincial Park where we found a short, self-guided hike, Falcon Creek. With our little activity book in hand, we followed the trail and learned very interesting facts about the geology and flora of the place. The second picture below shows a cute little garter snake we stumbled upon, and the third picture is a line of quartz that formed into the rocks. It's very common in this area.
After driving some more, we came to a point where we realized: "Oh my, it's just so flat here!" Like, no joke, we're used to winding roads, rolling hills, lush forests, and mountains, and then suddenly past the park there was just... grass. A long, straight highway and grass all around, and you could see the horizon line so clearly it was unsettling. We later learned from a local in Gimli that they have a saying in the Prairies: "If your dog runs away from home, you can still see him for three days." 🤣 The funniest thing is, we're sure it's true. And it's on that highway that we crossed the longitudinal centre of Canada!

Not too long after, we booked an Airbnb for a few nights (we ended up extending our stay to 5 days!) and drove the last few kilometers to Winnipeg. But that's a story for another day! Stay tuned, folks! 💜
TL;DR: We got woken up at 5:30 a.m. by fishermen who knew the spot we were sleeping at, saw Husky the Muskie in Kenora, took a hike in Whiteshell Provincial Park, got to see why the Prairies are called prairies, and finally crossed the longitudinal centre of Canada!
