Niagara Falls, the Canadian Vegas

Updated: Apr 16, 2021

Let me start by saying, Niagara Falls was a revelation for the both of us. I had been there before, like, when I was 13 or something, and I only remembered a few things like the Hershey store, the Guinness World Record Museum and Ripley's Believe It or Not, and it was Joel's first time. To our surprise, even though it was very commercial and all, it was a lot of fun AND the falls really are beautiful!

So, remember how the traffic was real bad in Toronto? We still managed to get to Niagara Falls around 7 p.m., which was just perfect to go play a round of Dinosaur Adventure Golf before our reservation at the Skylon Tower restaurant. We parked right by Clifton Hill, so we had access to everything on foot. It was a little cloudy when we got there, but the skies slowly cleared up as we went along the 18-hole course. We took the 2nd picture in the SkyWheel on day 2!

Then it was time to walk down Clifton Hill to the Falls. For those who don't know, there are actually two falls, one on the American side, Bridal Veil Falls (1st picture) and one on the Canadian side, the famous one, Horseshoe Falls. You can imagine Joel had a lot of fun recreating the danger signs along the scenic walk... Then it was off to Skylon Tower, where we had a reservation for dinner. Since it was a Friday night, we were expecting a fireworks display at 10 p.m. over the American falls, and we were lucky enough to be seated at exactly the right place to see them while dining! It was a magical moment, as shown by the not one, but TWO marriage proposals that took place that evening. For your info, both girls said yes. 😉 Niagara Falls at night was just as impressive, but we had to leave the city lights behind to sleep. We found a parking spot near Dufferin Islands, and we got straight to sleep.

The next day was cloudy again, but we were still able to enjoy a bit of beautiful early morning nature before the downpour began. And we saw a little raccoon thief having fun with the trashcan...

Since it was so rainy, we opted for indoor activities, and since it was quite early, we were alone at the Wizard's Golf mini putt, which was awesome. We'd been to a glow-in-the-dark mini putt before, in Montreal, but this one was a little extra. 🧙‍♂️ We also visited Ripley's Believe It or Not, which is cooler than the Guinness World Record Museum now that I think about it. On the pictures you can see me next to the tallest man in the world and Joel next to a Bug Snacks machine!

And suddenly it was sunny again, so we were able to enjoy the SkyWheel, then decided it was time to go to the U.S.A. again. We made sure we had a loonie each and walked towards the Rainbow Bridge, where you put a loonie in the turnstile and walk right over the river to the U.S. side of Niagara. I think the most entertaining was seeing all those tourists go down to the Cave of the Winds and get soaked to hell and back. It must have been sooo cold! 💦🥶

Honestly, as fun as it was to see both falls from another angle, Canada definitely wins this one: the view is far superior on our side of the falls! 💪🍁 Sorry, America.

On our way back to the car, we did a final activity, a laser maze. Yup, just like Mission Impossible! We were unfortunately quite worse than we thought we'd be... it was a lot of fun, though. So, after grabbing some Timmie's, we got back in the truck and got on the road to North Bay for a little rest and the scenic route to Sudbury. Now you know where to expect us next! Stay tuned, folks! 💜

TL;DR: We absolutely loved our stay in Niagara Falls! It was magical, even more so at night, and you definitely have to try to get dinner at the Skylon Tower during the fireworks. Expensive, but worth every penny! We made sure to snap good shots of the falls (the Canadian side is nicer than the U.S. side, but the latter is still fun to walk to) from the sidewalk, the tower, the SkyWheel... We enjoyed the mini golf courses and Ripley's Believe It or Not, plus a little challenge at the laser maze.
